Start The New Year With A New Look

Tap Into Customers’ Desire For Stylish Colors

New year—new look! That’s the feeling many homeowners have as TV shows and magazines all push them to update and renovate the “tired, outdated look” plaguing their house inside and out.

Of course, the easiest and most cost-efficient way to make a big impact is painting an interior room. That’s why paint manufacturers have all released their “Color of the Year” for 2024. Benjamin Moore’s “Blue Nova,” C2’s “Thermal,” Dunn-Edwards “Skipping Stones,” Krylon’s “Bluebird,” Sherwin-Williams’ “Upward SW 6239,” Valspar’s “Renew Blue” and Minwax’s “Bay Blue” are all various shades of blue. Others, like Glidden, Behr, and Dutch Boy have opted for more earthy tones.

But color isn’t limited to interiors. We know roofing offers many colors as well. As of this writing, however, only Owens Corning had announced a Shingle Color of the Year for 2024. Their “Williamsburg Gray” is—you guessed it—gray. More specifically, “a modern take on conventional shades of grays infused with nature-inspired tones that integrate slate grays, volcanic black shades, and earthy browns to deliver a timeless color statement on a home’s roof.”

But what does all this mean to you? It means that color is important and will be on the minds of your prospective customers. Use that to your advantage. Be proactive and talk up color and style when selling—both face-to-face and in social media. Show that you know and care about more than simply how long the roof will last.

Making it easy for your customers to select the right color for their roof could go a long way in getting the sale. For metal roofs (which has a wide variety of colors available), the Metal Roofing Alliance has a handy online tool you can use to show your customers what a specific type and color of metal roof would like on their house. You can give them the link or, better yet, do it yourself and show your customers several color options on their house. It’s free and easy to use. Try it here.

For steep-slope roofs, the free DesignEyeQ™ Visualization Tool will allow your prospects to “try on” Owens Corning asphalt roofing shingles. The user can either upload their own photo or select a pre-loaded house to experiment with different shingle colors, as well as adjust the siding and trim color, to better understand how their color choice will affect the overall appearance of their home. Homeowners can visit the site linked above, or you can put it directly on your website using the step-by-step instructions and free code provided by Owens Corning.

Color is a stylish consideration and great attention-getter in your social media posts and sales efforts. But don’t forget the details, either. While color may start the conversation, you can help differentiate yourself by highlighting superior materials that you will put into your customer’s roof. Items like ventilation and underlayment can help you demonstrate your technical knowledge of roof performance and show how you use “only the best” when you share product manufacturing, benefits, and warranties of superior solutions from suppliers like Marco.

The bottom line: it’s a new year, and you have a new chance to get out there and drum up new business. Why not take advantage of color to start the conversation?
