If you didn’t know the roofing industry, you wouldn’t understand the influence represented by the men gathered together this past month. But on that day in October, more than 150 years of combined roofing industry experience and expertise were on display through just four men: Doug Brown, George G. Allaster, Neil Westgarth, and Greg Weatherall.
Westgarth, president of Marco Industries, and Allaster, Director of Research and Development for Marco Industries, were on hand along with Marco’s manufacturing rep in Canada, Weatherall. The three were presenting a plaque of appreciation to the president of Peridot Supply, Doug Brown.
The award, which symbolized Marco’s long-term partnership and friendship with Brown and his company, honored him as a “Python Founding Member,” referring to Marco’s industry-standard recycled polyester, single-layer rolled ridge vent material and steep slope ventilation line.
“That such an industry giant as Doug would stand behind us and promote us all these years is truly a validation of our Python product line,” said Westgarth. “His leadership and reputation in the industry is unquestioned, and his friendship means the world to us.”
Allaster, whose background includes over 50 years of industry service with companies such as 3M and GAF, has worked closely with Brown for nearly 30 years. He credits Brown with “changing the residential shingle market for all Canadian homeowners and giving them peace of mind” through his efforts to move the market away from organic strip shingles towards architectural fiberglass.
“I have learned a lot from Doug,” said Allaster, who is known across the industry as “Mr. Goodvent” and “the king of ventilation.” “His contribution to the industry is incredible and I’m thankful for his friendship.”
“To be honest, I view all three of these men as mentors,” Weatherall added, “and I’m proud to be able to honor Doug and his contributions.”
According to the Marco representatives, Brown’s recognition is well deserved and he has more than earned the accolades and admiration of his peers.
“Doug’s dedication to innovation, quality, and superior service aligns perfectly with those of Marco,” said Westgarth. “We’re thankful to be able to honor him today!”
